As many of you know, my sweet Sienna passed away in February of this year. While she was alive, I was looking for a small cabin in the mountains for a weekend getaway and a special place that she and I could spend time together. Sienna was more familiar with the ocean than the mountains, but I know she would have loved everything about Big Bear. In fact, a big part of my search involved finding a place that would be safe and comfortable for Sienna. For example, I didn't want a place that had more than one floors (stairs.) Also, I wanted it to be filled with happy light. I also thought that one day, Sienna would have been interestsed in picking up golf. Afterall, she was a big girl and i think if she ever got the hang of it, she would have been really good.
Well, just before I found the perfect place, my sweet Sienna died. So after discussing it with mom and my sister, I thought it would be appropriate to name the cabin in her honor. So now it's called "Sweet Sienna."
While all of the photos and video involve me or other people, I always think of Sienna when I'm in the mountains, because I know she would have loved exploring beauty of the alpine environment.

Chilling Out In The Mountains
Here I am sipping a cup of coffee while watching the golfers across the street.
This past weekend, Mary and I hauled our kayak out to the lake and tried our hand at fishing. The weather was warm and sunny, with clear blue skies and crystal clear lake water. It was a perfect environment to try the adventure of fishing. We first launched from a small beach on the north side of the lake. From here, we paddled to a deserted cove where we tried our luck. As we sat on the shore throwing our line in the water, I was reminded of this quote..."The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of that which is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope” Indeed, we had the hope of catching our dinner for the night, but this vision was an illusion that was replaced instead by the reality of catching only very small fish that had to be thrown back. But we had a great time. We felt alone and at peace. Later on we paddled in the middle of the lake and dropped our line straight down into the black water, but we kept drifting, and so it was hard to keep our line were we wanted. So we decided to move onto a outcropping of big boulders. It was an amazing view from here. There were some old cabins that were boarded up but that looked amazingly like a scene from Tom Sawyer.
